Our journey to becoming better men continues with lessons from the book of Leviticus. As with the first two posts about Genesis and Exodus, I’m using The MANual, a Bible that provides honest and straightforward answers about our role as Christian men. My goal for posts on each book of the Bible is to help more men learn to follow Jesus instead of a culture that acts unholy much of the time. Typically, many people stop reading the Bible at Leviticus since it begins with detailed instructions about burnt offerings designed to cover the sins of the people against God and their guilt over those sins. Today, burning animals seems very strange to us (at least not in my part of the country!) so why read about them. Let’s learn how a different kind of offering can, in fact, lead to a more holy life. This year, I’m leading us on a journey through The MANual, an NIV Bible designed to help us become better men. This particular edition provides honest and straightforward answers about our role as Christian men in a culture that actively works against God’s will and doesn’t follow the ways of Jesus. My last post provided Lessons from Genesis. Let’s continue our journey with the next of the five books of Moses: Exodus. Exiting Oppression and Slavery Like Genesis, Exodus was written to the people of Israel around 1450-1410 B.C. (Before Christ). The main theme is that the Israelites go from one bad situation to the next – from being slaves in Egypt to wanderers in the desert. God used Moses to change to course of their history and can for you too. My initial post of this new year suggested we Downshift and Refocus to intentionally pursue God and the good life He offers. In order to help us grow as godly men, I will lead us on a journey through The MANual, an NIV Bible “written by men to men who are fellow travelers on this adventure called life.” The MANual Bible provides honest and straightforward answers about our role as Christian men in the face of a culture that actively works against God’s will and the ways of Jesus.  It includes 5 features that I’ll use to help us tackle the issues men face: Commonly, accepted Myths from the world. Examples of Men in the Bible who God used despite their failings. Ways of Knowing God so we can live as men created in His Image. Penetrating questions that cause us to “Downshift” and ponder.
